Episode 114 - The Insidious Films

episode 114 masthead

Leigh Whannell and James Wan, the creators of the Saw series, and Jason Blum and Oren Peli, the creators of the Paranormal Activity series, came together in 2011 to give us Insidious, a supernatural horror thriller. When it was played at festival circuits, Sony Pictures immediately picked it up less than twelve hours after its initial screening. Whatever the "suits" saw was transposed to general audiences since this low budget film made for approximately $1,500,000 went on to gross $100,000,000.

When Josh and Renai Lambert move into a new home with their three children, their young son Dalton falls into an unexplained coma. Soon odd disturbances begin to happen which forces the family to move once more to another house. Unfortunately whatever was haunting them seems to have followed them to their new address. When Josh's mother confesses a surprising secret that results in the arrival of paranormal investigators, the Lamberts begin a battle versus outer beings in a desperate fight to save their son's soul.

A throwback to such films as Poltergeist, The Omen, and The Exorcist, Insidious fits nicely in the pantheon of ghostly horror films that work equally for genre fans, critics, and general audiences alike. Your hosts of Dark Discussions converse about the film and the recently released follow up, Insidious: Chapter 2.
